Review:

Dark, enthralling, and full of unsettling twists and turns that kept me turning the pages, desperate to uncover the truth.

This is a well-written story with a clever plot that kept on giving till the very last pages…

And the very well-developed characters, all have an unreliable tinge to them, made it all the more difficult to foresee the twists, let alone the explosive finale.

I would definitely recommend this to all psychological thrillers’ readers!

I would like to thank the Publishers, NetGalley, and the Author for sending me a copy of this book.

My Top 5 Things to Do in Bonn 🇩🇪 Germany

Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, sounds like candy to me as it reminds me of Bonbon and Bonne, both are French words, one means candy, the other means different things.

This German city is a must-see, not only because of its rich history or because the greatest composer of all times was born here but because of everything it has to offer. So? Los geht’s!

1. Rhine River

Fancy a walk by one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe? Look no further, when in Bonn, you get the chance to see a lot of the Rhine River. And if walking is not your cup of tea then you can always take a cruise or jump into a ship to go from one side of the river to the other while enjoying the magnificent view along the way. We were blessed by a couple of sunny days during our stay so we did what we love to do: Reading! Armed with our loyal kindle devices, we made our way down the river and found refuge in one of its peaceful corners where time and space faded into oblivion.

2. City Centre – Beethoven House & HARIBO

There is a lot to see in Bonn city centre from Bonner Münster, which is one of Germany’s oldest churches to the old Town Hall aka Altes Rathaus, passing by multiple shopping streets, peppered with fountains and hidden gems.

If you’re like me, a fan of classical music then you will be thrilled to know that the house where composer Ludwig van Beethoven was born is just around the corner and to me, that was the highlight of my visit.

Did you know that HARIBO is actually an abbreviation of Hans Riegel, Bonn? The famous German confectionery company was founded in 1920 in Bonn by Hans Riegel Sr. and we couldn’t come to Bonn and not have some of these renowned sweets.

I am personally not the biggest fan of the chewy texture of these particular sweets but when in Bonn, you have to give it a try.

3. Museum Haus der Geschichte

If you had the time to only visit one museum in Bonn then go for Haus der Geschichte. As I walked from station to station, I found myself slowly slipping down memory lane, the German history flashing before my eyes, the war, the coming down of the Berlin wall, the sad times, the happy times and everything in between; it was an emotional rollercoaster that I would definitely recommend to everyone visiting Bonn!

4. Drachenfels

If you enjoy hiking then Drachenfels is the way to go but if sweating up a mountain is not your idea of fun, then you can always jump into Drachenfelsbahn, which will transport you up the hill and onto a fairytale land.

The first stop will be Schloss Drachenburg, a private villa that looks like a fairytale palace, where one’s imagination can and should run wild. The second stop will be the ruins of Drachenfels castle and as I stood there, what captured all of my senses was the Rhine, flowing through the former capital in all its glory; that view was worth it all!

5. Parks & Gardens

I’m sure you have got the gist by now you. Bonn is a green place, full of attractive parks and picturesque gardens.

For me, each green place serves a different purpsose. For example, Japanischer Garten or Japanese garden is my go to for reading. The Botanische Gärten der Universität Bonn is my favourite place to sip on my coffee while learning more about the plants, their names, where they come from, it’s like an exciting coffee date with nature. Rheinaue Park is for listening to an audiobook while admiring the beauty of the Rhine and its flamboyant surroundings.

There are so many green spaces here and they might seem similar at first as they all offer calm, peace, and serenity but if you look closer, you’ll notice that each place has its own charming character and quirky personality and it was my pleasure to get to know each one of them. Now it’s your turn 🙂

These were our Top 5 things we did in Bonn, we have also made a 2 parts video, which you can watch here and here.

Review of Strangers

Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Synopsis:

Ursula, Gareth and Alice have never met before.

Gareth’s been receiving strange postcards.
And Alice is being stalked.

None of them are used to relying on others – but when the three strangers’ lives unexpectedly collide, there’s only one thing for it: they have to stick together. Otherwise, one of them will die.

Three strangers, two secrets, one terrifying evening.

The million-copy bestseller returns with a gripping new novel that will keep you guessing until the end.

Review:

1. Unputdownable!

Three main very-well-developed characters come together in an action-packed suspense that left me wondering, where the hell is this going?

2. Treacherous waters

From the very first chapter, this book managed to pull me straight into its treacherous waters and even though I tried to take a break in between and have a KitKat, it simply refused to let me go till the very last chapter.

3. Denouement

Although I quite enjoyed the ride, somehow the denouement did not live up to my expectations but I believe that’s what happens when you read too many Psychological Thrillers.

4. Those twists and turns

Even though I was not the biggest fan of how everything came together at the end, I still enjoyed the wild ride with its highs and lows, twists and turns.

5. The Final Verdict

I would definitely recommend this book and will also be on the lookout for this author’s future work!

I would like to thank the Publishers, NetGalley, and the Author for sending me a copy of this book.

My Top 5 pros and cons of Logitech Z906

Logitech Z906 is the predecessor of one of the best and beloved Z5500 speakers. Z906 inherited all the impressive features like Dolby Digital/DTS support, THX certification, sturdy build quality from Z5500. Although my choice was to get Z5500, due to unavailability of these legendary speakers, I had to go for Z906. I was pretty impressed with these speakers when I bought them over 10 years ago. Alas, in August 2020, the sub woofer stopped working, turning the whole system useless.

Before I start looking into a new set of speakers for my personal use, I thought to share my top 5 pros and cons of Logitech Z906 and these will be used to help with my decision for my next buy. Although Z906 is great with games and movies, during this time of the year – it still lacks many of the technological features and support that is prominent in 2020. This is the main reason why I will not be replacing them with another Z906 speakers.

Pros

1. Sound Quality

It has a very good crisp sound with a punchy bass from the sub woofer.

Sub woofer itself has a 165W output while the total comes to 500W and could go up to 1000W if you are brave enough to raise its volume that high and face your neighbours.

It supports Dolby Digital with DTS amplifier builtin. An amazing 5.1 surround sound THX certified speakers.

2. Build Quality

Very Sturdy build speakers with a good finish. The speakers themselves look OK and blend in with the room.

The surround sound speakers are slightly upward angled for a good reach. The satellite speakers can be wall mounted or on a speaker stand or freestanding thus giving plenty of options to suit your room setup.

3. Convenience and ease of use

The speakers can be setup very easily without much hassle and pretty straight forward. Speaker modes, volumes and inputs can be controlled with a simple and intuitive small remote control.

With multiple audio input capability, there is enough inputs to connect all your appliances without any short comings.

The speaker cables are regular wires that can be replaced if needed for additional length or if they’re damaged.

4. Six Audio inputs

With the availability of 2 digital optical inputs, 1 – coaxial , 1 – 6 channel direct input , 3.5mm jack, 1 – headphone jack, RCA input – you won’t go short of connectivity. These inputs will give you a true surround sound dolby setup with enough immersive experience.

5. Best Value for money

Z906 is a good bargain and gives a lot of value for the money. I have used these speakers for over 10 years. Never had any problem with these or needed any visit to the repair centres. It is a good competitor among other 5.1 speaker systems.

Cons

1. Performance at low Frequency

At low frequency, the bass can be slightly distorted with too much vibrations.

Finally considering the sound quality itself, you need to be in a specific location (no audio tunings based on speaker location and direction) in order to get the full surround experience. This is because the satellites are with one way drivers unlike some of the latest speakers that has multi directional speakers giving a better area of surround setup including the dolby atmos.

2. Cables

Since these speakers are wired speakers, unfortunately there are lot of wires all over the place. Although wired speakers gives a better sound experience, the downside is the cables that connects to them.

The overall look and feel is a bit messy unless you are very good at hiding them, unlike me. Don’t get me wrong, the design itself is clean and kind of bland but still not too bad to arrange them in the living room.

3. No HDMI/wifi / Bluetooth connectivity

Although there are multiple audio inputs, lack of wifi/bluetooth connectivity to stream music is a bummer. It’s still acceptable considering the age of the product and the price point.

Also not having an HDMI port for audio input is also a miss, considering this age of ARC/eARC ports to support TrueHD/DTSHD.

4. Voice control is missing

Lack of Technological advancements like voice control (Alexa, Google home support) is another missing feature which I personally use on a day to day basis. Alexa has mostly my daily routines from morning alarm to turn off lights when going to bed. So very convenient to have an automated home accessories. No LCD displays to show the audio source except a led light to show the source 1, 2, 3 etc in the control console . Not very helpful, even I get confused which audio inputs correspond to which source.

5. Single Point of failure

Since all the audio source connections are in the back of the subwoofer, it’s a potential single point of failure just like I am facing right now. Since my subwoofer no longer works, the whole system is useless unless I could get it fixed by a local handyman.

Verdict

Personally, I will recommend Logitech z906 surround sound speakers if you are not fussed about the latest features like wifi/Bluetooth connectivity or support for HDMI and you’re looking for a budget speakers that can work with your computer/TV and other audio sources.

Unfortunately, the cons listed in this post are important for me and will be considered for my new potential system. Will continue my research on this topic and will come back with some updates soon.

Review:

1. One for Sorrow…

This fast-paced read tells the story of manipulation, revenge, and sorrow.

2. The Unreliable Narrator

The suspense kept me turning the pages and along the way, I lost trust in all characters as their unreliability became quite palpable.

3. In Style

I also quite enjoyed the author’s writing style and how the story progressed almost effortlessly.

4. Don’t let me down

The last revelation was a bit of a let-down but the way everything came together, at the end, was rather satisfying.

5. The Final Verdict

All in all, I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, and the storyline and will definitely recommend!

I would like to thank the Publishers, NetGalley, and the Author for sending me a copy of this book.

Review:

1. Have you Heard of Agatha Christie?

A story about a bunch of strangers, trapped in a remote area where spine-chilling events keep happening à la Agatha Christie fashion? Sign me up, please!

2. The Way I Like it

I’m not sure what I like most about these kind of stories, is it the premise or the creepy setting or is it the suspense, which holds it all together? I’d opt for a mixture of all these enchanting ingredients.

3. Slow and Steady Wins the Race

This book was a slow burner for me but I didn’t mind it that much.

4. It’s a Dark Dark Place

I quite enjoyed how the story progressed with twists and turns up to the ultimate finale where all pieces fell into place, painting a dark image of past troubling events.

5. The Final Verdict

All in all, I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.
