My Top 5 pros and cons of Logitech Z906

Logitech Z906 is the predecessor of one of the best and beloved Z5500 speakers. Z906 inherited all the impressive features like Dolby Digital/DTS support, THX certification, sturdy build quality from Z5500. Although my choice was to get Z5500, due to unavailability of these legendary speakers, I had to go for Z906. I was pretty impressed with these speakers when I bought them over 10 years ago. Alas, in August 2020, the sub woofer stopped working, turning the whole system useless.

Before I start looking into a new set of speakers for my personal use, I thought to share my top 5 pros and cons of Logitech Z906 and these will be used to help with my decision for my next buy. Although Z906 is great with games and movies, during this time of the year – it still lacks many of the technological features and support that is prominent in 2020. This is the main reason why I will not be replacing them with another Z906 speakers.

1. Sound Quality

It has a very good crisp sound with a punchy bass from the sub woofer.

Sub woofer itself has a 165W output while the total comes to 500W and could go up to 1000W if you are brave enough to raise its volume that high and face your neighbours.

It supports Dolby Digital with DTS amplifier builtin. An amazing 5.1 surround sound THX certified speakers.

2. Build Quality

Very Sturdy build speakers with a good finish. The speakers themselves look OK and blend in with the room.

The surround sound speakers are slightly upward angled for a good reach. The satellite speakers can be wall mounted or on a speaker stand or freestanding thus giving plenty of options to suit your room setup.

3. Convenience and ease of use

The speakers can be setup very easily without much hassle and pretty straight forward. Speaker modes, volumes and inputs can be controlled with a simple and intuitive small remote control.

With multiple audio input capability, there is enough inputs to connect all your appliances without any short comings.

The speaker cables are regular wires that can be replaced if needed for additional length or if they’re damaged.

4. Six Audio inputs

With the availability of 2 digital optical inputs, 1 – coaxial , 1 – 6 channel direct input , 3.5mm jack, 1 – headphone jack, RCA input – you won’t go short of connectivity. These inputs will give you a true surround sound dolby setup with enough immersive experience.

5. Best Value for money

Z906 is a good bargain and gives a lot of value for the money. I have used these speakers for over 10 years. Never had any problem with these or needed any visit to the repair centres. It is a good competitor among other 5.1 speaker systems.

1. Performance at low Frequency

At low frequency, the bass can be slightly distorted with too much vibrations.

Finally considering the sound quality itself, you need to be in a specific location (no audio tunings based on speaker location and direction) in order to get the full surround experience. This is because the satellites are with one way drivers unlike some of the latest speakers that has multi directional speakers giving a better area of surround setup including the dolby atmos.

2. Cables

Since these speakers are wired speakers, unfortunately there are lot of wires all over the place. Although wired speakers gives a better sound experience, the downside is the cables that connects to them.

The overall look and feel is a bit messy unless you are very good at hiding them, unlike me. Don’t get me wrong, the design itself is clean and kind of bland but still not too bad to arrange them in the living room.

3. No HDMI/wifi / Bluetooth connectivity

Although there are multiple audio inputs, lack of wifi/bluetooth connectivity to stream music is a bummer. It’s still acceptable considering the age of the product and the price point.

Also not having an HDMI port for audio input is also a miss, considering this age of ARC/eARC ports to support TrueHD/DTSHD.

4. Voice control is missing

Lack of Technological advancements like voice control (Alexa, Google home support) is another missing feature which I personally use on a day to day basis. Alexa has mostly my daily routines from morning alarm to turn off lights when going to bed. So very convenient to have an automated home accessories. No LCD displays to show the audio source except a led light to show the source 1, 2, 3 etc in the control console . Not very helpful, even I get confused which audio inputs correspond to which source.

5. Single Point of failure

Since all the audio source connections are in the back of the subwoofer, it’s a potential single point of failure just like I am facing right now. Since my subwoofer no longer works, the whole system is useless unless I could get it fixed by a local handyman.

Personally, I will recommend Logitech z906 surround sound speakers if you are not fussed about the latest features like wifi/Bluetooth connectivity or support for HDMI and you’re looking for a budget speakers that can work with your computer/TV and other audio sources.

Unfortunately, the cons listed in this post are important for me and will be considered for my new potential system. Will continue my research on this topic and will come back with some updates soon.

My Top 5 Tips for a Healthy Family

I would like to start this blog by giving a bit of a background on myself. Me and my sister were raised by my mother who was a widow at the early stages of her life. She worked very hard to give us the best she could give. Be it on getting a good education or having good food or clothing , she always tried her best to give us the best childhood. She taught me the importance of living in the moment and not to worry much about the future. She is the one person I look up to and am always grateful for the hardships she had to go through to make me who I am now. So here is the list of my top 5 tips for a healthy family and what I believe are the most important factors to consider while pursuing a flying family life.

1. Failures are just lessons

Raising your kids to make decisions on their own and not being scared of failures is key to great heights. I think, it’s important for them to realise that failures is not a bad thing while they are just lessons for them to stream line their future decisions. These days, people are so concerned about failures and thus missing out on the best things in their life because of the potential future failures and anxiety. Fail Fast and thus learn faster – is a good way to move forward.

I would encourage you to read the book “Power of Now” that was reviewed by us recently and you can find a short glimpse of the top 5 quotes in here . It’s not worth worrying about the future or the past as we don’t have control over both. But the best part is , you can control what you are about to do and each time you make a decision, the future changes. Making decisions and having that sense of achievement is a great way to increase the confidence of your kids and of-course for your own benefit too.

2. Encourage Hobbies

Hobbies are an incredible part of childhood. Encourage them to learn musical instruments, sports, dancing or reading books etc. These hobbies are going to support them throughout their life regardless of happy or sad times.

These days, there are so much of online materials out there and sources to learn new things, for eg :- learning piano. I have been using the best online piano tutorial called Flowkey for the past 6 months and it has been serving me well. I wish I had this earlier. It can take you from scratch to become an intermediate piano player.

3. Family Time

Spend time with family/kids as much as possible as I would always say “Life is too short”. Have trips with family and make good memories to cherish at a later point of your age. It doesn’t necessarily have to be always travelling though. Instead, some of the best activities to spend quality time are : going for a walk together, cooking, playing games, eating homemade food, spend less time on social media 🙂 , supporting them on their educational activities, doing some charity works along with them etc.

4. Set an example

Parents play an important role in bringing up their children by leading them and becoming their first role model. A lot of traits are being imitated by the kids while they grow up. So be mindful while they are around. Teach them to be kind and respectful by acting as such. It can only work by being the role model rather than by giving a bunch of advice (An act can replace a thousand words apparently). Train them on how to manage time and stress so they are prepared for their turn.

One last thing I like to mention in this section is really about how we all think. As far as I know, just like the coin have its 2 sides, everything we face in life has a positive and negative side. Question is when you are given a half glass of water – Do you see that the glass is half empty or do you see it half full. I guess you got my point! It is certainly the way we perceive and respond to anything. So I reckon we should strive to see what’s there instead of what’s not there.

5. Practice Reading

Having a set time for reading is an awesome habit that I feel everyone’s kids should have. Books are an incredible source of knowledge which some of our good elders have researched and written it to share with us. They have done the home work and we just need to read them 🙂 “It’s that simple!!!” . If physical books are not a convenient way, why not switch to the digital version. I myself use the Amazon Kindle which is such a good alternative digital format. The convenience of using Kindle is such that you get to use one small device for thousands of books along with the possibility of using audible (audio books) while driving or cooking.

My Top 5 hobbies during COVID-19 lockdown

1. Cooking/Baking

My top hobby during these days is Baking. One of the best snacks that I baked so far was “Blueberry Muffins”, which is also the easiest. I would say that it’s one of my specialties. It’s a rich muffin with lots of walnuts, blueberries, crushed almonds, dates and cranberries to give a slight tangy taste. Comment below if you would like to give it a try. Apart from the “Awesome muffins”, some of the best results were cheese cake, fudge brownies and chocolate cookies. I tried the carrot cake once, since I love the one from Starbucks and it was a disaster, need to work on it 🙂

During this lockdown, we tried to cook at home as much as we can with fresh ingredients rather than tinned or processed food. I love cooking especially trying out dishes with a lot of spices and combining different flavours, primarily with vegetables and pulses.

2. Learning/Playing Piano

Although I have been playing piano randomly here and there, I was never able to commit to this hobby for some time. Thanks to Covid-19 and with the help of some online apps – I did manage to get better over time and have been playing every day for at least 30mins. I use flowkey and online pianist apps which I found easy to use and have quite a good training programme.

3. Cross Stitching

A new hobby that I started 3 months ago was cross stitching. Need a lot of patience and consistency it seems. My strategy is to do at least 1 strand (6 threads) at a time. The story behind this hobby is very funny though. When I travelled to Beijing last year for work, I decided with the help of my colleagues to buy a wall poster with some traditional Chinese touch to it online. Once I received the package after returning to Germany, it was with a shock to realise that it’s a cross stitch bundle with a bunch of threads and needles to do it.

I left the package as it is for around 6 months with no intention of trying it out. Once the lockdown started, I picked it up and started working on it. Now am very curious of the end product. Looking forward to it but it’s going to take another 6 months to complete it seems. It’s quite a large frame.

4. Driving

I love driving around the good scenic places of Europe. A spontaneous drive to random places is the best. I tend to drive towards places with more greenery as much as possible, where me and my wife just chill with some nice music. Last trip was to Luxembourg, which was awesome. Lots of nice mountains and forests with a bunch of twisty roads and hair pin turns. Loved it!! Next is Hamburg (port city of Germany with more bridges than Venice). Interested to know about the best food and things to do in Hamburg, then why not drop a comment?.

5. Learning

The last but not the least which gets the 5th position is watching video documentories on Netflix , Youtube, Amazon Prime Video, Apple tv+, listening to audible and reading on my kindle. I do have an affinity for quantum physics, myths about consciousness, astro physics, Technology, power of desire and law of attraction. And I still have a lot of open questions which am yet to get a convincing answers to. I will come back to my questions at a later post, soon 🙂

My Top 5 Secrets to a Healthy Relationship

Below are my top 5 secrets to a healthy relationship although not limited to –

1. Have Fun

Having fun together is the most important driver of a “healthy relationship”. It doesn’t matter in which direction it goes, wherever life takes you, have fun together and be there for each other.

If not fun, then why would you be in a relationship with this awesome person in the first place? My favourites in this category are playing Fifa with my wife even though I lose almost all the time (ohh!!! tell me about it), spontaneous drives to random places, playing tennis, visiting new countries, trying out different cuisines and the list goes on (check out recent drive to hamburg).

Scientific studies show that having fun and a good laugh with each other increases your levels of happy hormones, thus making you want to have more fun. Happy hormones I mentioned above are Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin, Endorphins; if you want to learn more 😉

2. Respect

By treating my partner just like how I want to be treated. As an individual, we all have different likes and dislikes and don’t necessarily know everything about our partner in the first place. You will know them by time. So take time to understand them and react accordingly is my go to strategy :).

Giving her the space when needed and allowing my partner to have her own time in her space and thoughts. I certainly don’t want to be around her all the time because I myself will have my “me time”, which I do want as well (Check out my top 5 hobbies)

Respect her needs and expect nothing back although by time it does become a habit of having higher expectations. I, at least, expect the minimum, which puts me in a safe place.

3. Patience

Think before you act : it’s very hard to  think when stressed or tensed but I take the time to think what will be the effect of my next action or words as the wise people say “A word of mouth and your last breath cannot be taken back”.

I have my own way of doing things and it’s not easy to change but I do believe that patience will bring in a common ground where both of us are comfortable.

4. Say Sorry

Don’t let the ego take the lead – A sorry would not hurt but will most probably make your day better and earn you respect. Apparently, it doesn’t need to be in words, sometimes, a simple hug can do the trick.

Sometimes, it’s no one’s fault and most of the time, the fights are too silly and not even worth the fight at all. Think about the best time you could’ve been having but instead, you’re wasting it fighting. So be brave guys and go ahead and fix it. The earlier the better as the time goes by, it gets harder to fix.

We practice a policy of no fights go to the next day, which has worked perfectly so far.

5. Eat Together

Cook and eat together with love and at the same time respect the food you are about to have.  It’s one of the best things you could do together. Sharing food and eating together have a big effect on the relationship. Somehow when people eat together and share food, unlike any other things you do, there is some kind of an indescribable connection, which cannot be explained.
