My Top 5 pros and cons of Logitech Z906

Logitech Z906 is the predecessor of one of the best and beloved Z5500 speakers. Z906 inherited all the impressive features like Dolby Digital/DTS support, THX certification, sturdy build quality from Z5500. Although my choice was to get Z5500, due to unavailability of these legendary speakers, I had to go for Z906. I was pretty impressed with these speakers when I bought them over 10 years ago. Alas, in August 2020, the sub woofer stopped working, turning the whole system useless.

Before I start looking into a new set of speakers for my personal use, I thought to share my top 5 pros and cons of Logitech Z906 and these will be used to help with my decision for my next buy. Although Z906 is great with games and movies, during this time of the year – it still lacks many of the technological features and support that is prominent in 2020. This is the main reason why I will not be replacing them with another Z906 speakers.

1. Sound Quality

It has a very good crisp sound with a punchy bass from the sub woofer.

Sub woofer itself has a 165W output while the total comes to 500W and could go up to 1000W if you are brave enough to raise its volume that high and face your neighbours.

It supports Dolby Digital with DTS amplifier builtin. An amazing 5.1 surround sound THX certified speakers.

2. Build Quality

Very Sturdy build speakers with a good finish. The speakers themselves look OK and blend in with the room.

The surround sound speakers are slightly upward angled for a good reach. The satellite speakers can be wall mounted or on a speaker stand or freestanding thus giving plenty of options to suit your room setup.

3. Convenience and ease of use

The speakers can be setup very easily without much hassle and pretty straight forward. Speaker modes, volumes and inputs can be controlled with a simple and intuitive small remote control.

With multiple audio input capability, there is enough inputs to connect all your appliances without any short comings.

The speaker cables are regular wires that can be replaced if needed for additional length or if they’re damaged.

4. Six Audio inputs

With the availability of 2 digital optical inputs, 1 – coaxial , 1 – 6 channel direct input , 3.5mm jack, 1 – headphone jack, RCA input – you won’t go short of connectivity. These inputs will give you a true surround sound dolby setup with enough immersive experience.

5. Best Value for money

Z906 is a good bargain and gives a lot of value for the money. I have used these speakers for over 10 years. Never had any problem with these or needed any visit to the repair centres. It is a good competitor among other 5.1 speaker systems.

1. Performance at low Frequency

At low frequency, the bass can be slightly distorted with too much vibrations.

Finally considering the sound quality itself, you need to be in a specific location (no audio tunings based on speaker location and direction) in order to get the full surround experience. This is because the satellites are with one way drivers unlike some of the latest speakers that has multi directional speakers giving a better area of surround setup including the dolby atmos.

2. Cables

Since these speakers are wired speakers, unfortunately there are lot of wires all over the place. Although wired speakers gives a better sound experience, the downside is the cables that connects to them.

The overall look and feel is a bit messy unless you are very good at hiding them, unlike me. Don’t get me wrong, the design itself is clean and kind of bland but still not too bad to arrange them in the living room.

3. No HDMI/wifi / Bluetooth connectivity

Although there are multiple audio inputs, lack of wifi/bluetooth connectivity to stream music is a bummer. It’s still acceptable considering the age of the product and the price point.

Also not having an HDMI port for audio input is also a miss, considering this age of ARC/eARC ports to support TrueHD/DTSHD.

4. Voice control is missing

Lack of Technological advancements like voice control (Alexa, Google home support) is another missing feature which I personally use on a day to day basis. Alexa has mostly my daily routines from morning alarm to turn off lights when going to bed. So very convenient to have an automated home accessories. No LCD displays to show the audio source except a led light to show the source 1, 2, 3 etc in the control console . Not very helpful, even I get confused which audio inputs correspond to which source.

5. Single Point of failure

Since all the audio source connections are in the back of the subwoofer, it’s a potential single point of failure just like I am facing right now. Since my subwoofer no longer works, the whole system is useless unless I could get it fixed by a local handyman.

Personally, I will recommend Logitech z906 surround sound speakers if you are not fussed about the latest features like wifi/Bluetooth connectivity or support for HDMI and you’re looking for a budget speakers that can work with your computer/TV and other audio sources.

Unfortunately, the cons listed in this post are important for me and will be considered for my new potential system. Will continue my research on this topic and will come back with some updates soon.

Book Review: The Parisian Professor by Joseph Sciuto

Review of The Parisian Professor

Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

It is late winter, 2020, and Nick has been pulled out of the CIA’s Kabul office and sent to Paris for what sounds like a simple assignment. Posing as a graduate student at a local polytechnic institute, his task is to build a case against Abdul Haqq, a brilliant engineering student suspected of building bombs for Hezbollah.

What should be an open-and-shut case soon becomes a tangled mess as Nick finds himself drawn into a friendship with the charismatic young engineer, then falls hard for Abdul’s adopted sister, the beautiful but troubled art student with a tragic past, Gabrielle.

As tensions in his personal life rise against a distant backdrop of geopolitical conflicts in Russian-dominated parts of Ukraine, Nick soon finds himself struggling to balance his passion for Gabrielle and his friendship for Abdul with his growing sense that something is rotten at the highest levels of the American government.

At the center of a hornet’s nest of political malfeasance and unbridled greed is a figure known only as “the professor,” an insidious intel boss whose sick ambitions threaten not only Nick and Gabrielle but the entire planet.

A powerful political novel ripped from the headlines and wrapped in a love story, The Parisian Professor explores the roots of state-sanctioned corruption and the scourge of dictatorship in America and beyond.

1. Paris, mon Amour!

“The rarest creature in the world is an honest person.”
As soon I read the title of this book, I knew I had to get my hands on it and good that I did.

The highlights for me were the beautiful writing and the thorough research behind it all, making it both, an informative and intriguing read.

2. Parlez-vous Francais?

I liked the mix of French, English, and a taste of Arabic in the book and since I love Paris, the setting was the cherry on top.

3. Trigger Warnings

The story touched upon a myriad important topics and it couldn’t do that without triggering a couple of warnings, ranging from rape to extremism, so tread carefully.

4. Bad Romance

A vulnerable wanna-be hero and a beautiful girl with a painful past, when you put these two together, the lines can get a tad blurry and what was called love in this book, I saw it as infatuation turned to pity and obsession. Bottom line is, I wasn’t a big fan of the ‘love’ story within this spy novel but I’m sure other people will find it romantically convincing.

5. The Final Verdict

In a nutshell, this was a gripping espionage story with a romantic touch to it. Would definitely recommend!

I would like to thank Joe for providing me with a copy of this book.

Book Review: Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell

Review of Invisible Girl

Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

LONDON: On a fine avenue of grand houses, big cars and electronic gates, lies a neglected urban wasteland

It is nearly midnight, and very cold. Yet in this dark place of long grass and tall trees where cats hunt and foxes shriek, a girl is waiting…

When Saffyre Maddox was ten something terrible happened and she’s carried the pain of it around with her ever since. The man who she thought was going to heal her didn’t, and now she hides from him, invisible in the shadows, learning his secrets; secrets she could use to blow his safe, cosy world apart.

Owen Pick is invisible too. He’s thirty-three years old and he’s never had a girlfriend, he’s never even had a friend. Nobody sees him. Nobody cares about him.

But when Saffyre Maddox disappears from opposite his house on Valentine’s night, suddenly the whole world is looking at him. Accusing him. Holding him responsible.

Because he’s just the type, isn’t he? A bit creepy?

INVISIBLE GIRL: A story of secrets and injustices, and of how we look in the wrong places for the bad people while the real predators walk among us in plain sight.

1. The Magic Potion

A suspenseful read with some well-developed characters!

This is a story of lies, secrets, perceptions, and much more…

2. A Big Fan

A story with a great plot, intriguing characters, and the writing style is absolutely brilliant.

3. Tell me More

The highlight for me were definitely the characters, their backgrounds, and how they interacted with each other. I was quickly invested in each one of them and genuinely cared about their respective fates, so kudos to the Author.

4. Not a Big Fan

However, the big reveal did not live up to the intense build-up and I was left slightly underwhelmed but that’s probably because I expected something a tad more intricate.

5. The Final Verdict

All in all, it’s a great story that I’ll definitely recommend.

I would like to thank the Publishers, NetGalley, and the Author for sending me a copy of this book.

My Top 5 Tips for a Healthy Family

I would like to start this blog by giving a bit of a background on myself. Me and my sister were raised by my mother who was a widow at the early stages of her life. She worked very hard to give us the best she could give. Be it on getting a good education or having good food or clothing , she always tried her best to give us the best childhood. She taught me the importance of living in the moment and not to worry much about the future. She is the one person I look up to and am always grateful for the hardships she had to go through to make me who I am now. So here is the list of my top 5 tips for a healthy family and what I believe are the most important factors to consider while pursuing a flying family life.

1. Failures are just lessons

Raising your kids to make decisions on their own and not being scared of failures is key to great heights. I think, it’s important for them to realise that failures is not a bad thing while they are just lessons for them to stream line their future decisions. These days, people are so concerned about failures and thus missing out on the best things in their life because of the potential future failures and anxiety. Fail Fast and thus learn faster – is a good way to move forward.

I would encourage you to read the book “Power of Now” that was reviewed by us recently and you can find a short glimpse of the top 5 quotes in here . It’s not worth worrying about the future or the past as we don’t have control over both. But the best part is , you can control what you are about to do and each time you make a decision, the future changes. Making decisions and having that sense of achievement is a great way to increase the confidence of your kids and of-course for your own benefit too.

2. Encourage Hobbies

Hobbies are an incredible part of childhood. Encourage them to learn musical instruments, sports, dancing or reading books etc. These hobbies are going to support them throughout their life regardless of happy or sad times.

These days, there are so much of online materials out there and sources to learn new things, for eg :- learning piano. I have been using the best online piano tutorial called Flowkey for the past 6 months and it has been serving me well. I wish I had this earlier. It can take you from scratch to become an intermediate piano player.

3. Family Time

Spend time with family/kids as much as possible as I would always say “Life is too short”. Have trips with family and make good memories to cherish at a later point of your age. It doesn’t necessarily have to be always travelling though. Instead, some of the best activities to spend quality time are : going for a walk together, cooking, playing games, eating homemade food, spend less time on social media 🙂 , supporting them on their educational activities, doing some charity works along with them etc.

4. Set an example

Parents play an important role in bringing up their children by leading them and becoming their first role model. A lot of traits are being imitated by the kids while they grow up. So be mindful while they are around. Teach them to be kind and respectful by acting as such. It can only work by being the role model rather than by giving a bunch of advice (An act can replace a thousand words apparently). Train them on how to manage time and stress so they are prepared for their turn.

One last thing I like to mention in this section is really about how we all think. As far as I know, just like the coin have its 2 sides, everything we face in life has a positive and negative side. Question is when you are given a half glass of water – Do you see that the glass is half empty or do you see it half full. I guess you got my point! It is certainly the way we perceive and respond to anything. So I reckon we should strive to see what’s there instead of what’s not there.

5. Practice Reading

Having a set time for reading is an awesome habit that I feel everyone’s kids should have. Books are an incredible source of knowledge which some of our good elders have researched and written it to share with us. They have done the home work and we just need to read them 🙂 “It’s that simple!!!” . If physical books are not a convenient way, why not switch to the digital version. I myself use the Amazon Kindle which is such a good alternative digital format. The convenience of using Kindle is such that you get to use one small device for thousands of books along with the possibility of using audible (audio books) while driving or cooking.

My Top 5 Things to Do in Hamburg 🇩🇪 Germany

1. Food

We’ve heard that when in Hamburg, we have to try the fish…so we did. From a Fish platter at Hamburger Fischertube to a Fischbrötchen at Brücke 10, passing by Daniel Wischer for a cheeky little plate of Fish & Chips; some we liked, some were just ok. My favourite was, hands down, the Fischbrötchen mit Bismarckhering.

Hamburg has a lot of fish to offer and the variety can get a tad overwhelming at times. So we decided to take a little break between a Fischbrötchen and a Fish platter and go for burgers at Dulf’s Burger, we had to wait in a queue for about half an hour, which turned out to be rather worth it. The burgers were absolutely delicious but they weren’t the star of the show, the chilli cheese sauce was, I still dream of it to this day!

Another day, another story to tell. After coffee and a couple of Franzbrötchen at our new favourite place Nur Hier, it was time for us to discover the hidden gems of the city. As we strolled down the old streets of Hamburg, a delicious scent swiftly caught our attention and without thinking, we found ourselves inside an Arabic Restaurant called Azeitona, which means olive in Arabic. The scent of their fresh Falafel wafted out, begging us for a taste so we obliged and I’m glad we did. One bite and we were transported into Falafel heaven; it was heavenly to say the least.

When in Hamburg, try the fish and if fish is not your cup of tea, then there is a lot more delicious treats to sink your teeth into!

2. Chocoversum

Shout out to all the Chocoholics out there, this is the place for you!

As a chocolate lover, I’m always hunting for chocolate factories and yes, I do blame this on Charlie and the chocolate factory but this is a story for another day. Chocoversum is a place where you get to learn about chocolate, talk about chocolate, taste chocolate, and make your own chocolate bar, what’s not to like?

3. Port and Evening Cruise

If you’re a sea person like me then Humbug’s port is a must-see!

I loved watching the sunset while munching on my Fischbrötchen or eating my Haagen-Dazs ice cream but being in a ship in the middle of the sea while the night’s slowly falling over the buzzing city, now that, has a whole different feeling to it. The choice is yours, chilling in the port or riding the waves? You can have both!

4. Miniatur Wunderland

There is something absolutely magical about seeing a miniature of the world!

Fancy feeling like a giant or Alice in wonderland then Miniatur Wunderland should be your next destination! My favourite station was the airport, perhaps because it felt strangely real, which made it all the more mesmerising. If you’ve ever been, then let me know, which station was your favourite and why?

5. Planten un Blomen

After a long day in the midst of the city’s beautiful chaos, we like to wind down in a park and Planten un Blomen was everything we could ask for; it’s our favourite place to read or listen to a book!

Greenery, peace and serenity, and a decoration that will leave you in awe. Planten un Blomen is the perfect place to start and end your day. It almost feels like a 5 star relaxing resort but for free.

These were our Top 5 things we did in Hamburg, we have also made a video, which you can watch here
